The main protein in milk, casein, unlike other proteins, has a unique ability to last for a long time. A study from the Netherlands concluded that participants had a higher metabolic rate while sleeping when taking casein.
A Texas study showed that pairing casein with whey caused participants to outperform their counterparts. Researchers from a Massachusetts study surmised that casein doubled the effect of whey protein on strength results.
