# 8 Using Weights To Burn Fat
While cardio is great, it isn’t the end-all be-all for burning fat at the gym. Lifting weights will also help you burn calories and can help you develop a strong core.
Lifts that don’t target your abs will still help you build a six-pack. For example, squats are primarily a leg exercise, but the main stabilizer in the lift is your core. You don’t have to squat heavy to see results. Any weight will activate your core in the secondary function of the lift.
