#2. You’re Just Not Eating Enough
Sometimes people have a hard time coming to terms with this one. You’ll often hear skinny guys talk about how they eat and eat but never gain. In our experience, the folks often don’t realize that at the end of the day, they’re not eating as much as they think. At the end of the day, gaining weight comes down to caloric surplus.
If you’re an ectomorph and you’re trying to build up a stronger physique, you’re going to have to eat beyond your comfort zone. It’s not just about eating until you’re full; you’re going to have to eat like the size you want to get to.
We generally recommend carbohydrate restriction for weight loss. On the other hand, carbohydrates help you build muscle. So if you’re having a hard time gaining weight, be sure that you are including some carbohydrates in every meal. In order to reach the 3000-5000 calories per day your body needs for growth, it’s time to make peace with carbs. You will carry a bit more water weight but don’t be discouraged. You can cut water weight very quickly when the time comes for shredding. In the mean time, eat up and don’t be afraid of carbs if you want to grow muscles. Gaining muscle is 80% diet and 20% training; eat accordingly.
