#8 Heart Healthy
Too much cholesterol is bad for your health, but there is a protein that is great for your heart health. Good cholesterol, also known as High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) is the only cholesterol that boosts heart health when increased. When bad cholesterol or Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) increases and HDL decreases, you are at higher risk for cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease puts you at risk for stroke and heart attacks. Both occur when blood flow to one area of the body is stalled because of blood clots in the vessel. Strokes occur when blood flow is being blocked from the brain while heart attacks occur when blood flow is blocked from a part of the heart. All of this is a chain reaction stemming from elevated LDL cholesterol levels. While many believe that alcohol raises the risk for cardiovascular disease, whiskey reduces that risk by boosting good cholesterol or HDL in the blood.
A couple of glasses of whiskey a day would not only help prevent cholesterol buildup, but it will remove all of the bad cholesterol (LDL) that is built up in your arteries and blood vessels. Whiskey also relaxes the artery walls so that oxygenated blood can flow freely through each vessel. Thinking about having a glass with your oatmeal for breakfast yet? Probably not the best idea, but it’s certainly tempting.
