Did you suck up a lot of food yesterday, maybe a pizza or two? It’s time for a new diet, here are your intermittent fasting results.
A lot of us have this habit of eating more than we should, especially if you have a really interesting Netflix movie on or even football.
You don’t even realize and the calories keep on adding up when you’re scarfing it down. So, here is your chance to know a couple tips that will help you shed down the extra pounds with remarkable ease. Let us get started.
Intermittent Fasting – What The Heck Is It?
Urgh, it is so lame to starve yourself for the sake of shedding a few calories. A lot of you may have this habit of believing so. However, if your efforts at losing weight have been useless or if you have hit a plateau and you are not losing weight any further, this might be the exact thing which you are looking for.
However, before you jump high up the air with a lot of excitement; I just want you to know that the facts listed herein here been done so based solely on my own research.
Not Eating For A Day And The Concept Of Six Meals
For years, I have believed that having small meals all throughout the day seem to be the best option. I often thought that if you are clever enough to space apart your meals and make sure that you do not consume a lot of calories, you will be able to cut down on your total weight. There are so many people who propagate this theory of “eat less but multiple meals” and even I believed it to be true.
However recently, I started digging around in some details and I found out that maybe, there is a better alternative that you can have. I found out that if you can once in a while completely skip the meal; your body will end up using the fat present in your body for the sake of deriving energy. This aids in weight loss.
Further, when you do not eat for say 24 hours, you are actually ensuring that your body will have a calorie deficit and this too contributes to weight loss.
You must be thinking that these are two completely opposite ideologies; how the heck could both make sense. The answer is simple. Both these methods allow your body to burn more calories than what you are consuming and thus, it leads to weight loss.
Understanding Intermittent Fasting
It is indeed what you are thinking it to be. It revolves around the concept of not eating for a day. It is like you choose not to eat anything for a whole day in a week or so. Our body metabolism operates more on a weekly basis rather than daily. So, your stomach takes into account how many calories you consumed over a week rather than a day.
You can find a lot of great articles on fasting and not eating. You can check out many other details on many popular websites. Fasting does have immense power and it can help you lose some weight. You can test by not eating for a day, you can bid goodbye to the some extra pounds.
How Does It Truly Works…
The human body is so well made that it can deal with feast as well as famine. You will need energy to carry out all your day to day activities and when you are not eating, your body will fall back upon the stored energy in the reservoirs to extract the needed energy. The stored fat is burned for the sake of releasing energy.
Further, when you choose to skip meals, you will actually be putting your body in a calorie deficit region and thus the number of calories that will be burned is going to be tremendously high verses the calories consumed. The more the calories you burn, the higher will be the loss of weight.
Here is an example of this right out of my eBook:
Notice this is the traditional way to lose weight with a calorie deficit of 500 calories, and In this example I did not take a day off.
How To Do It?
If you are brimming with questions like what not to eat to lose weight or even with doubts like can you lose weight by not eating, let me try and give some answers.
All you truly need to do is choose one or two max days a week where you will deliberately be skipping your breakfast and lunch. You are allowed to have your dinner, but do not end up gorging upon all the junk food just because you skipped your meals. You are only allowed to eat normally, and by that I mean healthy.
You can obviously have liquids when you are fasting, however once again, do not gorge upon calorie rich drinks; water is your best friend on fasting days.
If you are one of those who is averse to the idea of not eating, you may find it hard to map the change; so, take it slow. Also, I am not asking you to follow it every day. It is just a couple of days a week to experiment. Once you can handle skipping breakfast, try and skip your lunch as well. This is more difficult right at the very start and becomes a lot easier as you keep progressing ahead.
So, eat normally for five days of the week and on one/two days, make it a point to skip a couple meals.
The Benefits Of Intermittent Fasting
When you are not eating for a day or two, you will be able to enjoy a lot of benefits and these include the following. It can help in decreasing your blood pressure; it reduces the oxidative damage that may occur to lipids and even protein and DNA molecules as well. It also improves the sensitivity of insulin and your glucose uptake too, at the same time; it decreases the total fat mass of your body as well.
The Risks That Are Involved
So far, I have been telling you the positive aspects about this. Now, comes the crappy part.
What is wrong with intermittent fasting?
First and foremost, I really get annoyed and angry when I can’t have food though and I am terribly hungry. There is no doubt about the fact that fasting is extremely uncomfortable especially for those who have a rich appetite. Also, it is common to find that people tend to overeat the next day which actually cuts down on the benefits of fasting all together. You are supposed to have a normal meal the rest of the days.
So, if you really want to know can you lose weight by not eating, the answer is an emphatic yes but at the end of the day, you should know how to keep your hunger in check. I am not asking you to overdo to the point you start fainting. You need to know where to draw the line and make it a point to curtail your hunger as much as you can. It’s also important to know if you are super active on this day I wouldn’t recommend skipping meals as you will probably feel super light headed and have zero energy.
Did I Try It & My Intermittent Fasting Results
Let me be crudely honest. I am here stating some basic facts on intermittent fasting, but so far, I have tried this and failed personally. At least, not deliberately.
My work often leads to skipping meals at times, but no I haven’t huge luck when it comes to dieting in general.
My big problem was simply that I would lose my gains or become very irritated. Unfortunately, when I tested this I became very angry and irritated with everything and everyone. Let me tell you if you are sensitive to eating or are hyperglycemic, this is not for you. Further, I am also worried that by not eating, I might not have ample energy to carry out my workouts.
I am going to try out fasting again and see if I can hold out longer without freaking out, but I am not holding my breath. I am confident that it will pan out the way it should and will bring in the right kind of results if you can execute it properly, however.
Do I Recommend It?
Now, this could be really tough for me because of the simple reason that I struggled so hard myself. I could give you loads of crap just for the sake of saying everything is “great” but as long as I haven’t actually experienced all the results myself, I won’t give it a 100% rating.
Conclusion
The main core idea that will always remain is to burn more calories than what you are consuming. If your current goal of losing weight doesn’t seem to be working, you should always toggle your approach. You can start this intermittent fasting method almost immediately; there are some people that have seen some “weight loss” from it.
